Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few notable changes:
- Each team includes just eight human participants, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Activities performed by real players award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Player Input
All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
