Grief as Beloved South African DJ Shot Dead in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country grappling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.
Police said the forty-year-old entertainer was accosted by three individuals, one of whom opened fire on him before fleeing on foot.
The motive of the incident has not been established and no one has been arrested have taken place, as per the official statement.
The Fatal Incident
Authorities said that Stock was attacked as he was departing from a building in the vicinity of the city center landmark.
He had devoted time at the building overseeing the installation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, it was reported.
"Authorities believe the deceased was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before fleeing the scene on foot," an official report confirmed.
CCTV footage reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocks and wearing what looked like a protective services outfit shooting on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.
Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the assault.
Key evidence, like bullet casings, were recovered from the scene.
Call for Public Assistance
Authorities have requested eyewitnesses who may have have information to assist with the investigation.
"We know they traveled on foot after the attack, and officers have been tracking them to determine their destination," stated a police chief.
Outpouring of Grief
His family member, Nicole Stock, said the family was struggling to understand the tragedy.
"Words fail me. I cannot express the pain," she stated.
"We know he was a voice for many people. He was a fearless commentator about subjects not many people were prepared to speak about. This is a profound tragedy."
She appealed to the public to avoid sharing explicit content from the incident, explaining this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's children.
His Professional Legacy
Stock was the star of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that aired on a South African broadcasting platform.
In addition to his work in broadcasting, Stock was engaged in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including security provision, offering elite guarding services and securing prestigious gatherings across South Africa.
He was also reportedly involved in building administration and participated in property reclaimations.

His murder has sent the nation reeling and prompted an outpouring of tributes from his followers, the authorities and political parties.
A cabinet official commented he was furious and grief-stricken by Stock's killing.
"He spoke his truth boldly and honestly. He even criticized me and my decisions as a minister. He was a true embodiment of who we must aspire to be," he stated.
A public representative stated the "audacious attack of DJ Warras in broad daylight is a shock for all South Africans".
A broadcasting director expressed that "DJ Warras was far beyond a TV personality. He was a skilled narrator, a passionate music lover and a warm soul who brought excitement and dynamism to every appearance. His commitment to his craft left an lasting impression."
In a statement, the broadcaster he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his charisma, approachability and quick humor, adding that his influence "will endure".
