Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, During Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing attack against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any damage is not yet known and the American officials has not commented.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - stated they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck locations associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to rise up against the government.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates stated that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a series of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted debris landed in a neighborhood in the capital, causing some material damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
