The acclaimed director pushes his directorial skills through this clever paranormal narrative filmed completely from the viewpoint of the phantom. This Creepy Thriller
Scott Derrickson's locked-room horror stands strong without requiring a follow-up. Taking place in 1970s Colorado, a series of kidnappings has made the children frightened. After Finney is taken by the kidnapper and locked up in a dungeon, he anticipates a fatal end. But the disconnected phone mounted nearby continues to ring, with spooky callers offering help, while the prophetic visions from his sibling Gwen could save him. A genuinely scary movie. The Eyes of Tammy Faye
In the conflict between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for materialism in Showalter's delightfully tacky film adaptation of the disgraced religious broadcaster plus her lawbreaking partner. Garfield portrays the greedy Jim, who declares early on, claiming divine approval for wealth. He and Tammy Faye commence monetising the people's religious faith. It's a spectacle of poor styling, overdone appearance and bad faith, yet Chastain succeeds to depict the real-life figure as a sympathetic figure. Tuesday 14 October, late night, the Film4 channel
