The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network launched a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often marked by bleakness, this show's earnestness struck a chord and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. There’s something surprisingly comfy about watching this lovable family go about their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
